The Monkees

The Monkees

Last week I watched a Biography Channel tribute to Davy Jones of The Monkees. When I was in my teens I used to watch The Monkees television program on Sunday evenings. I also bought their albums. I didn’t really care if The Monkees were a real band or not. Their shows were funny and their music was great. The Monkees provided good clean family entertainment and they gave their audience a temporary break from reality.

  1. Loved the Monkees then and for yrs to follow….As a young teen a had their pics among others plastered all over my bedroom walls….Flash forward a couple of decades to the 80’s and living in Ottawa, whenever I brought a date home, I’d put on a Monkees album….If there were any derogatory remarks, smirks or eye-rolling, the date was quickly disposed of….I figured if they didn’t like the pure joy of their music then they weren’t of my ilk….Now here I am in 2012, still have the albums amidst more than 500 others (I, unfortunately lost one of my fave albums which was just entitled “Davey Jones” with songs like “Maybe it’s because I’m a Londoner” and “Old Iron” )….bty….haven’t married yet….wonder if there’s any correlation??? lol
