A Look Back At 2013

A Look Back at 2013
Last year I spent a fair amount of time trying to recover from my eye surgery. I had a detached retina and lost a significant part of the vision in my left eye. I can see slightly better now but still require a strong magnifying glass when I have to read anything at work. I really should be grateful that I can see at all. Just as I was getting ready to return to work I found out that one of my brothers required immediate critical surgery. As he didn’t really have anyone who could help him out I took another two weeks off work to look after him after his surgery.
Once I was able to return to work I enjoyed my job immensely. I am presently retired but still do a significant amount of substitute teaching. I enjoy working with the students and like the constant variety provided by the job.
I was looking forward to the summer break and some free time to pursue my hobbies. I had recently just taken up learning to play a bass guitar. Unfortunately, my beloved mother in law passed away during the summer and this sent me into quite a tailspin. I was devastated by her passing and sunk into a mire of grief and depression. I don’t think that I was able to do much of anything for about six weeks.
